THE PAPER BAG PLAYERS, founded in 1958, are a company of adults who create and perform original theater for children ages 4 through 9. Their shows combine short plays, dances, audience participation, mime, painting and drawing on stage, and wonderful ragtime music played live at every performance. The subject matter of the shows reflects a child's everyday experiences—with a dash of the fantastic thrown in! Common household objects, cardboard boxes and brown kraft paper brightened with poster paint and crayon, become their sets, props and costumes.

THE PAPER BAG PLAYERS, include Ted Brackett, Kevin Richard Woodall, Laura Canty-Samuel and Molly Rice. They combine the skills of actors, singers, dancers, comedians, acrobats and clowns! John Stone, resident composer and musical director, plays the music live at every performance on the electric piano—children join in the songs during the performance and are inevitably singing them as they leave the theater. Whether it’s a rag-time beat, the tickle of the slide whistle or the tap tap of a tin can, each and every moment is underlined and enhanced with music.
